A formal introduction is always nice when you're meeting someone for the first time.  So, let me introduce myself:

My name is Kenny Doucette, I am the founder and operator of VacationRentalHotSpots.com (a site dedicated to Florida Vacation Rentals).  I'm 36 years old and live in Daytona Beach, married for 6 years (Lisa), we have a 4 year old son (Chase), a dog (Marley), and a cat (Safron).  Born just north of Boston in Winchester, MA, I lived there all of about 3 or 4 weeks before I began my life as an "Army Brat". 

This is where my passion for travel and exploration began.  Because of my Dad's career choice, we picked up and moved, on average, every 2 or so years until we ended up in, of all places, Key West, FL in 1985. 

Key West was a very interesting place to go through 4 years of High School (Key West High School Conchs).  This is where I discovered what Florida living and, more specifically, being a Florida beach bum was all about.  I caught the "lazy bug" down there and really started to get into the laid back lifestyle.  Living amongst the swaying palm trees, warm sun soaked sand, and all the pretty girls in bikinis, my perspective on life was forever tarnished. 

Being 18 at the time, I knew I still had a lot of life ahead of me before I could actually retire on the beach with a permanent fruity cocktail in my hand.  So, I went to college, landed a nice job, and started a family.

I'm sure most of you feel the same way…working for somebody else sucks!  I always had the entrepreneurial bug and tried a few small things here and there with some success.  But, what I really found to be my passion, was Real Estate.

Back about 4 or 5 years ago, I was working as a Financial Advisor for a large firm when my Dad started to really prod me about the real estate game.  I was interested, but not really sure about leaving a promising career and taking such a big risk with my family's future.  Needless to say, my entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and we started to join the Real Estate "Gold Rush" and staked our claim to a number of properties in the sands of Daytona Beach.

So, here we are, in Daytona Beach…buying, fixing, selling, renting, etc.  We had a few places we wanted to hold on to because of their location and hopes of long term financial gain.  This is where I started to learn about "Vacation Rentals".

Doing Vacation Rentals started out as a means to help cover the mortgage.  What it turned into, is something altogether different.  We now have 3 full-time vacation rentals in the Daytona Beach area that we rent out all year round to people from all over the world.

Over the past few years of being in the vacation rental business we've had the opportunity to try out all sorts of Marketing options.  What we've come to realize is that there is no better option than the Internet. 

If you want to rent your vacation home to Barb & Norm from Ohio…they're not going to call you from a Pennysaver ad…they're going to find you listed online at one of the many vacation rental websites that are out there.

Most of our inquiries come from sites like vacationrentals.com, homeaway.com, and findvacationrentals.com.  By having real life hands on experience with these sites we've been able to uncover what works, what doesn't work, and what we want www.VacationRentalHotSpots.com to do for our visitors and users.

In the next Blog, I'll talk a little more about the concept behind VacationRentalHotSpots.com and try to share some Features and Benefits of what the site can do for you and your vacation rental busines.
