Get Launched In Florida’s Space Coast!

Published November 5th, 2007 in Florida Cities - What 2 See

Have you ever wanted to personally witness one of the space shuttle launches from Florida? To many, this is truly a spectacular event. Travelers from all over the world swarm to the Kennedy Space Center to watch the scheduled launches. These earth-moving and impressive events are one of the many reasons to visit Florida.

Located in Florida’s Space Coast, the Kennedy Space Center is situated among the protected wetlands and preserves that are part of a 72-mile radius along the eastern Florida coastline. Just 35 miles east of Orlando and within minutes from Daytona Beach, the Space Coast encompasses an unspoiled coastline and nature preserves that provide the most serene backdrop for the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Fun for the whole family and perfect for kids of all ages, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex offers up-close and personal tours of NASA’s launch and landing facilities. Live shows, interactive simulators, hands-on exhibits of massive rockets and face-to-face encounters with a real member of NASA’s Astronauts Corps are all to be had in a day’s exploration at the center.

There are just a few things to keep in mind if you’re planning a trip to see a live shuttle launch. You’ll want to check the launch schedule to determine the date of your vacation. Be sure to double check as your vacation nears because oftentimes shuttle launches may be delayed. You can purchase tickets through the Kennedy Space Center web site for admission to the onsite viewing area which is just six miles from the launch pad. As expected, these tickets sell out quickly so it’s best to order yours far in advance. If you are unable to obtain tickets, the second best place to watch the shuttle launch is the Astronaut Hall of Fame, which will also require a ticket. If within your budget, check out the Dine with an Astronaut Program, which is a luncheon where you can experience space exploration through the eyes of one of NASA’s Astronauts.

If you have the time while visiting Florida’s Space Coast, be sure to check out space-oriented attractions including Air Force Space Museum, Astronaut Memorial Planetarium and Observatory and the Astronaut Hall of Fame.  It might take a few days to get to everything you want to see and do.

You’ll need a place to rest your weary head at the end of a long day.  Try a Florida Vacation Rental for a change.  Rent a comfortable home or condo for a few days and live like the locals.  Vacation rentals are a great alternative for a new experience.
